Whale shark seen bottom feeding for the first time

A whale shark has been noticed feeding on the seabed for the primary time, fairly than filter-feeding on plankton on the sea floor.

The weird behaviour was noticed throughout a whale shark tour in Baja California Sur, Mexico, by an ecotourism information who despatched the footage (above) to researchers for evaluation.

A 5-metre-long juvenile was noticed sucking on the sand at round 6 metres deep, showing to gulp down materials from the substrate.

“Nobody’s ever seen this behaviour earlier than,” says Darren Whitehead at Shark Research Mexico, who studied the footage.
